The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is the world's central intergovernmental forum for scientific and technical cooperation in the nuclear field. Established in 1957, it seeks to promote the peaceful use of nuclear energy and to inhibit its use for any military purpose, including nuclear weapons.

To promote safe, secure, and peaceful nuclear technologies; verify nuclear non-proliferation commitments; and provide technical assistance to member states in nuclear science and applications.
